Great Weekend ahead at the National Dressage Championships 2013

It’s come around again!  Next weekend (Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th October) sees the Australian National Dressage Championships at SIEC.  This is going to be an amazing weekend and a chance to see some great combinations of the top Australian riders and horses.  The depth of talent and experience we now have in Australian Dressage is amazing, as well as some really great younger riders coming through to challenge the old hands. Competition will be incredibly strong.  This is a chance to see the combinations that will be representing Australia at future World Equestrian Games and the Olympics.

A special congratulations, and big welcome, to Judith Beint-Tapp and Checkmate (Chester) who are competing in their first Nationals in the Intermediate 1 and will be travelling all the way from King River Station, near Katherine.  Their story is truely amazing – you can read about it, and hear the interview, on the related link below: Station Stock Horse to National Dressage Championships.

You can get the full draw for each day of the competition here: Time Draw

I am very excited to have Albert entered into the Prix St. Georges (Thursday) and the Intermediate 1 (Friday).  We will be looking to improve on our performances from the NSW State Championships.  I am so looking forward to it.

You can find a full programme of events, ticketing, trade village and a lot more on the Dressage NSW site:  Click Here

Looking forward to seeing you there…….Do come and say hello:-)

Warm up well!

Here we are relaxed and happy warming up in the Sydney International Equestrian Centre warm up arena at the NSW State Dressage Comp.  Getting the warm up routine right is so important to setting ourselves up for the best possible results in the test.  This is true at all levels of dressage but even more so with a young and inexperienced horse.  It is by far better to get all those nerves out of the way in the warm up arena rather than in front of the judges 🙂

I always give ourselves plenty of time before the test so the warm-up routine is not rushed and we can relax and get focussed on the job ahead.

Warm up well!

Albert – Inter 1 – NSW State Dressage Championships

Great weekend, great weather, excellent state championships.  Congratulations to all the combinations. So good to see so many horses and riders on the verge of very impressive performances.

Was so pleased with Albert’s performance in the Inter 1.  This was only his second experience of the indoor arena and he did very well and I was extremely happy with him.  We had some anxious moments though :-), and we lost it completely in the canter zig-zags (I think we scored a “3” for that) which badly effected our overall score!  At the end of the day our score of 63.25% reflected our performance.  This is all excellent experience for Albert.  He has come a long way in a short time.

Albert keeps his Dressage Comp Cool!

100_0637 PAlbert kept his cool so well today and soaked up the atmosphere on a beautiful Clarendon Dressage day.  I was really happy how he handled the whole thing. The results showed just how well he behaved.

We started with the Prix St Georges.  It was a good test and he scored a very pleasing 71.57% coming a close 2nd to Brett Parbery on Good as Gold with 71.75%.

An hour later and we were on again this time in the Inter 1.  Albert gave the test his very best effort again which resulted in his best score so far at that level – 69.69%. Again 2nd to Brett.

Thanks to all my support team – and especially to groom Emily – so good to have you all there.

Confidence Booster for Albert

I’m taking Albert to Clarendon tomorrow for a big confidence booster.  We are riding the Prix St. George at 10.12am and then the Inter 1 at 12.15.  He still lacks experience and confidence in the competition arena and I am teaching him to settle with the atmosphere out there in the competitions.  This is so important at this stage in his career and he needs to get all the experience he can.  Looking forward to a fun and relaxed day!  Above all looking forward to Albert taking it all in his stride 🙂

Hawkesbury Dressage Club Championships 2013

We had a great day today at the Hawkesbury Dressage Club Championships. Albert’s first Intermediare 1.  I was very, very proud of our effort today although I couldn’t ride the tempi changes so rather let the side down.  Albert was super.  We scored 66.64% in the Official Prix St. Georges (1st) and 67.96% in the Intermediare 1 (3rd).

Looking forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.  Come on down and say hello.

Wonderful result for Albert at Sydney CDI

How excited and proud I am of Albert’s wonderful result today.  Even more amazing that this was only his second Prix St. George.  He coped so well in the bigger atmosphere of the Sydney CDI, a first for him and an important step in his development in dressage.

Albert CDI 2013 Prix St George
